Face-ing Urban Africa is a series of 15 portraits captured on 35 mm film that showcase Kenyan women with a global awareness of urban narratives, together with their personal stories of culture & heritage grounded in relevant contemporary issues. ‘When we think about urban design, we often do not think about the women who create, manage and experience the true essence of design and urban space. Nairobi Design Week and Matri-Archi came together in a photographic project that generated inquiry and discourse through the many faces that inspire and shape Urban Africa.’ In addition to the participatory photographic project, Aisha Mugo presented the conceptual thinking behind the work through a PechaKucha hosted by Nairobi Design Week.
